As I was walking through a favela the other day I met this guy. He was at the bar with a bunch of other drunk guys having a good ole time. As I talked to him they all immediately laughed at my accent, and the fact I can speak only a little Portuguese. But as I talked to him he told me he was a musician. So I asked him what he played and he pulled out an old nylon string guitar. He started playing and he was amazing! He started singing a song that completely reflected everything about Christ. Every verse had something about salvation in it. It was a really strange thing to watch a guy so drunk sing about Christ. The song had such power in the lyrics. Lyrics that made me question how I was with Christ. It was beautiful. Pray for this guy. I don’t know his name but I pray that if I meet him again he will be sober enough to share the Gospel with.

Glad you looked like you felt better tonight. We missed you at the fireworks. We’re really bummed that we’re not having a party since your not here to do the fireworks show.
I’ll be praying that God will give you the chance to talk to with this guy again. Maybe God will even let him hear the words he sang in a whole different way after seeing someone that was from the U.S. living out his faith. We never know how God is going to use us. Even in the conversations that you don’t think are making a difference, God can open doors to someone’s heart. This guy has obviously heard with his head, but now maybe he’ll hear the words of his songs and open his heart to allow Jesus to speak to him.
Again, I’m so proud of you. I’m praying for your strength- physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I know He will continue to do mighty things through you as your serve Him.
I love you.

Jared,
I haven’t been commenting but I have been keeping up. I pray for you everyday and I am so glad that you got the opportunity to go to Brazil to make a difference, even though it is for such a short period of time, the impact you are leaving will last forever! I feel so selfish saying that I can’t wait until you come home because I would love to see you, but its true. I love and miss you!!
